Hatching Beauty

Hatching Beauty is a stop-motion live action montage about a woman deciding to sell her ova to make ends meet. Once she enters the market she realizes she is as much for sale as the products she produces at work.

The inspiration came about when I was trying to raise funds to make a film and considering ovum donation as an option. The resulting story deals with collective fears around perfection, consumption, genetic engineering, commercial agriculture, and reproductive technologies.

Got, Got, Need!

'Got. Got. Need!' is essential playground lingo for thousands of children swapping football stickers all over the world. But for one collector, playground swopsies were not enough to land him the prized name of Mickey Stewart - the only empty space in an otherwise complete sticker album from 1970.

After a dramatic vision, the collector realises that all his life's failures stemmed from his incomplete album and, now enlightened, he mounts a new bid to complete it - 35 years after he first started.

Dear Lori

On March 23rd, 2003, the 507th Maintenance Company was ambushed near the town of Nasiriyah, Iraq. Eleven soldiers were killed and five were captured by Iraqi soldiers as prisoners. Among the POWs was a 19-year-old blonde hair blue eyed female soldier named Jessica Lynch from Palestine, West Virginia. Jessica???s rescue story quickly took center stage and her ordeal was used by the government to deflect negative attention away from the Iraq war. The Jessica Lynch incident ultimately extended beyond her persona to engage the nation in discussions of gender, race, war, and patriotism.

While traveling across America, Leonard Knight found a secluded spot and decided to build a monument to Jesus. Fourteen years later, Salvation Mountain is a harlequin colored, three-story religious monument made out of mud, old paint and adobe. It is surrounded by an encampment of brightly painted vehicles and elaborate adobe structures. Leonard's mountain and message is now known worldwide, as he gets daily visitors from around the globe. In recent years, Leonard has gained significant respect from the folk art community and his work is now on display in the Visionary Folk Art Museum in Balti

Tenderly Yours

Tenderly Yours resituates the personal, casual and ambiguous approach of French new wave cinema in a net art narrative that explores love, loss and memory.

The story is recited by a striking and illustrious persona, who moves through the city with her lover. Her willful independence is intoxicating, though her sense of self is ambiguous and a fear of intimacy consuming. Then, one day she suddenly disappears. Her lover is left bewildered and is posed to question whether she is a fiction, who fades with every passing recollection. At this moment, her face reappears only to be united with tha

During the prologue, a room filled with terrified Irish students listen while a professor solemnly warns them that their performance on the three-hour test laid before them will determine their success or failure in life. Liberally laced with irony, this subversive comedy from Irish director Graham Jones centers on the attempts of six young friends to devise a way to cheat on their upcoming Leaving Certificate, a grueling comprehensive exam that will allow them to receive diplomas. The test causes so much anxiety that some students have committed suicide rather than risk failure. The young reb

Hairlady

Hairlady began as a time-lapse photography experiment. First, the subject?s head and face were shaved. As hair growth proceeded, two identical digital photos were shot per day (approximately 12 hours apart) for four months, the subject ending up extremely hairy. On the final day an HDV video camera was mounted where the still camera had been and the resulting video footage was shot, following the subject to meet the titular Hairlady (Miriam Escovitz).

The Light

Adam Reiter?s world is in stasis; existentially empty and devoid of purpose. That is, until his daily routine is interrupted by a seemingly harmless traffic light. What starts as a mild frustration of modern day life, escalates into a seemingly all-out battle. In a moment of rage, a neutral by-standing Moving Man, makes an observation, and sheds light on whether the conspiracy is actually against Adam, or for him.

These then were collected and animations were created between each contribution, as well as the finale and introduction, by the filmmaker with an aim towards a more cohesive whole than the classic animation jam. All contributors were selected on the basis of a general aesthetic similarity in personal work as well as an abiding interest in the fantastic or grotesque.

Ng

In the summer of 1985, the San Francisco police unearthed a grisly discovery. The bodies of 25 victims, men, women and children were found, on a remote ranch along with a homemade dungeon and explicit videotapes. Two men were arrested for the horrific murders, but only one would face prosecution. This turned out to be one of the most grim, devious and damning cases in California history. This is the true story of Charles Ng, the first Chinese serial killer in America.

it's her, the Captive, prisoner of her own body.

Tormented soul, prey of unfathomable mutations,
monster-woman, woman-monster,
your fight reveals intimate fearsome eruptions,
your resignation is wise,
tomorrow is an other day and everything will start again.

Once upon a time

TO REMEMBER THAT OUR SKIES ARE THE SAME SKIES

This piece was built around a line -- as sentence -- that was forged in conversation. an idea that took on it's own life and whose meaning continues to grow and evolve even more now. This piece wasn't created so much as it was revealed, discovered, unearthed and given an existence somewhere other than my screen/hard drive.

A terrible death machine imposes its law crushing everything it meets. It is a real living thing ridden by a fat War Lord. Many branching arms move the machine. A clever game of light and shadow discloses walls and buildings of a frightened city apparently uninhabited. The fat powerful man terrifies the city while windows close, black vultures drop their contents of death from the sky and explosions from the buildings follow one after the other. The Lord of War walks triumphantly, nobody can resist him. But something slips away, not everything is under control. A young boy attacks frontally. C

Life in Villamar is a picnic, so I thought as a young child. Each visit was a feast, friends and relatives brought their catched from an all night fishing trip out to sea for us to have.
I return to Villamar 30 years later to visit cousin Lupe, with warmth and in disbelief that I remembered those we

The Big Brother State is an educational film about what politicians claim to be protection of our freedom but what we refer to as repressive legislation.

Since terrorism has become a global threat, especially after 9/11, governments all over the world have started enforcing laws which, so the governments say, should increase national security.

In this animated film, a boy discovers a magic potion that allows him to explore the universe within himself. A sip unleashes a violent reaction, revealing a diverse cast of characters twisting and stretching their way out of one another forming a monumental pile. The boy drinks for a second time which violently transforms him again, creating a torrent even more twisted than the first, but this time in reverse order.

And I Cried

We live in a world besieged and besotted by image. Everyone, it seems, wants their fifteen minutes and plenty of people will do whatever it takes to get a piece of the celebrity cake. And I Cried is a film about wishing to be a movie star. Being a star is about shining bright, a brilliant flash of light against a velvety black night sky. And I Cried is an exploration, a celebration, a lamentation, of our obsession with the star and the image.

Where are We

This is an experimental poetic documentary that uses spoken words and images to look at the isolation one feels living in a North American city. This 6 minute short follows a solitary bike ride, where we explore an empty non-descript city. We go along with the bike through the various neighbourhoods of the seemingly empty city. The film examines the questions of what does isolation look like? How do we connect with one of another, living separately within our own boxes? What do we deem important in from what sometimes becomes the decay of our buildings? How do we create community in this c

EASY

EASY tells the story of a casual (sexual) relationship of convenience between an older couple. It seems on the surface to have become routine and easy, but underneath this ease lies a dark secret. As the story unfolds with a subplot based on the classical tail of The Little Red Riding Hood, the secret is revealed - someone turns to be the Big Bad Wolf!

The Luminary

The Luminary is a love story, albeit a slightly unconventional one. The protagonist, a reclusive entymologist with a light bulb in the place of his head searches for the missing link in his collection - the luna moth. She holds the key to his collection and to his happiness. As he waits to find her, the seasons turn from autumn through to spring. In the light of spring, love blossoms as the elusive luna moth is willingly in lured to the brightness of our protagonist?s globe. But like the passing cycles of nature that move through the background of the story, this love is also part of a cycle.

Dinner Table

On an ordinary day, a young couple is having dinner. The boy takes a bite of chips. The girl casually asks him how the food is. He briefly answers, ???It???s good.??? However, the intonation or speed of how he spoke, the way he chewed the chip, the fact that he didn???t look at her takes her to her psychological journey in which she explores what is really happening in their relationship. While the conversation at the dinner table remains ordinary and mundane, the images jump back and forth between the dinner table and her mind???s eye.

The girl imagines that she is approaching him as
